Actually i dont think the punching power will be better, but definetly the endurance.

Hammers work very well for punching, if you notice you can build wrist strength as you turn your hands over as you strike. Also if you hang a tire at about upper chest height, you can strike it with the hammers using all your boxing strikes and develop your shoulders, forearms, wrists and hands all at the same time. This is what the old school fighters use to to do.

there is no reason to use hammers please convince me other wise i shouldnt just use dumbbells.

I use title weighted bag gloves 5 lbs each and use a weighted wrist strap with it that Ican adjust up to 20 lbs

Or you can use free weights instead of hammers. I think they work the same.
